Rachels 5th grade band concert

Rachel had her first 5th grade band concert last night so we got to go and watch. She happened to be in the perfect seat for us to watch her play also. Normally they are way in the back or middle so you don't get a good view, but since she plays the flute she sat in the front row on the side! The concert was mostly a few lines of melody that they played over and over and over for about 30 minutes, so much so that I was humming it all night much to Candices chagrin.

The cold continues

Candice took some shots around the house from the extended cold streak of -20 temperatures. We get to see lovely ice patterns all over the windows of the house (on the outside and the inside!

Snow and Cold Weather

This season has had alot of snow and some really cold temperatures early on and for long periods. I thought I would post some pictures of our street, our mailbox, and what the sidewalks look like when we plow them, along with the wind chill advisory out today.

TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON WILL REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY OR RISE A DEGREE OR TWO...BUT STILL REMAIN BETWEEN 4 TO 12 BELOW ZERO. NORTHERLY WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON WILL CAUSE WIND CHILL READINGS OF 30 BELOW TO 40 BELOW ZERO. OVERNIGHT LOWS TONIGHT WILL DROP TO NEAR 30 BELOW ZERO TO AROUND 20 BELOW ZERO. DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS INTO THURSDAY MORNING...WIND CHILLS WILL TUMBLE TO 35 BELOW TO 45 BELOW ZERO.

SOME MINOR IMPROVEMENT OF THE WIND CHILL VALUES MAY OCCUR AS WINDS DIMINISH TO UNDER 10 MPH DURING THE DAY ON THURSDAY. IT WILL STILL REMAIN VERY COLD WITH DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES ONLY RISING BETWEEN 5 BELOW TO 10 BELOW ZERO. WIND CHILL READINGS WILL PLUMMET DOWN TO 30 BELOW TO 40 BELOW ZERO ACROSS EASTERN MINNESOTA AND WESTERN WISCONSIN AGAIN THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING.

2009 Polar Dash

Keeping with the tradition I ran the new years day Polar Dash in downtown Minneapolis. It starts at 11 AM and goes along the MN river right downtown. Last year it was about -20, so this years 4 degrees felt warm. I also did my first 10k this time, rather than the 5k I did last year. I am glad I finished it, but it was ugly, painful and slow. It was about 8 minutes slower that I had done in practice and I believe I was one of the last ones to finish, which is always a great feeling getting "charity claps" when you cross the finish line. Results are at http://www.andersonraces.com/Results/pd10krs09.htm (look for me around 269th)
